Vintage 1970s Truck Driver PSA: River of Wealth, River of Freedom

I have to train WHO?

The River of Wealth and Freedom. Presented by GMC and the American Trucking Association Foundation.

Found on side 2 of the 1978 GMC Truck DiscoVision / Laserdisk. An interesting look at women in the workplace in the late 1970s, and a nice snapshot of what the highways looked like almost 40 years ago.

Sadly there is a bit of LaserRot, especially at the beginning of the film.

I've been on the road for 25 years now and things never change. Looks like the old problems are still the problems of today. Guess it keep going on long after I retire. 10 years to go.

i wonder if he is aware or cares about the real problems facing the industry. i am a CDL holder. i drove for a mega carrier for 3 months and now landed a local job.

these men and women of the industry work many hours unpaid for ALL of their time. they only get paid while the wheels are turning, yet the occupy that truck for 168 hour per week. the have to eat expensive crap food, pay for laundry, pay for showers sometimes, ect ect. if you calculate ALL of your time spent away from home the wage is probably below minimum.

driving a truck and remaining accident free is a skilled job. yet mcdonalds workers somehow think they are worth $15 per hour. something doesn't compute.

i was going to give it up, but then i got lucky and landed a driving that gets me home every night and pays an hourly wage. im actually not working for a trucking company anymore, but a company that sprays fields. my job is to take water and fertilizer to the fields.

things are not great for the drivers in the industry. large publicly held companies are not good to work for. the regulations in effect hurt and hinder the driver, and to do not make it any better for drivers.

repeal bad regulations and enact regulations that help drivers, pay them what they are worth.

As a retired Driver I am proud to see our President show recognition to the trucking industry. The last administration did it's best to villainize truck drivers and trucking in this great country, Obama's Federal Department of Transportation did its level best to almost destroy one of the main industries that supply our country with pretty much everything everyone needs to live every day. I am proud once again to be not only a Veteran but to be an American. Just one thing; Please fire that idiot Press Secretary Sean Spicer. He is a complete screw up and a embarrassment.
