Felons looking to put the past behind them often have a difficult time. The main thing that felons need to to live better lives is to get jobs that allow the to earn a decent wage. It may seem that many doors to employment are closed to them. I have been helping felons get jobs for many years and quite people I have worked with have turned to driving trucks. Trucking offers the opportunity start a new career with a good salary. If DUI or DWI is not a problem, driving for a living may be a viable option.
There are many trucking companies that hire felons and some even offer training. You may even qualify for a grant to pay for training at a truck driving school. Ex-offenders and felons may be eligible for Commercial Drivers License training through the Dept. of Labor. You can contact your local One-stop Career Center to inquire about funding for training. Once you have a CDL you will not only be licensed to drive big trucks, but you could also get jobs as a bus driver, delivery driver, limousine or taxi driver. Many find that driving big trucks is where the money is.
There are many trucking jobs for felons because many companies are willing to hire them. Some require different waiting periods after convictions. Some require that convictions be at least five years old, some seven years and others 10 years. Each company has its own rules. You would have to contact each company to find out what their hiring practices are.
