(ABC Four Corners, 3 Feb 2014) Long haul trucking is a tough way to make a living. It’s also an industry that takes far too many lives. The latest figures show that in just one year 242 people were killed in truck-related crashes and hundreds more were injured. Many of those accidents could have been avoided.

This whole series through the Rockies has been great with very dramatic footage. And I agree with others that love the drone shots. And Josh, you asked in one of these recent Vlogs how long we have been watching. For me, you were in a single wide mobile home with a neighbor behind you whose lot was draining into yours and your yard was a bit of a swamp.

Yes you drove the other direction. You would have had to come in from the south side of town. I'm guessing you stopped at the stop after Costco. Thank you for saying all those nice things about Kamloops. You and Britt would love it here. We have amazing camping and hot summers😊😊😊😊 Great vlog!!!

The oldman did the North Queensland to Melbourne market run in 1 of the late Barry Densley's Western Stars. Use to go away in school holidays i remember I once went to sleep just outta Taroom and woke up at Numurka. The oldman ended up pulling a garden city van with it and was doing unbelievable miles. Anyways keep it safe guys.

Wot a joke. I've been a driver for 27 yrs and well I'm writing a post so obviously I'm still alive.
I've had trucks, cars, animals come at me even too the point one night passing a truck yeah ok all was gud till I heard almight crash noise behind me literally.
The truck I passed slammed head on into truck behind me.
But too blame it all on freight rates as an excuse is not the issue.
How about go to Fucking bed even a short 3 hour sleep could be just enough to save your life or others.
I myself only get paid by kms and I don't particularly care wether I do one trip a week or 2.
Money ain't worth risking your life it's a piece of fucking paper but my partner and kids are worth the casual choice in my decision too do the ( oh well pay won't be as good this week) shit happens just means more time with my family.
Trucks don't kill people. People kill people through ignorance and arrogance in their decisions and this is not just trucks or the drivers. This covers every person including enforcement agencies when they pass by your truck at breakneck speeds and your up there in the big unit in frightened state, No warning ⚠️ or lights or 🚨 it's enough too let free of steering wheel and we all know as truck drivers where this leads and who fits the bill If loss control happens yep Steel bars for the truck driver.
This event happened too me two days ago have I proved my point yet.
No one gives a fuck truck driver is blamed even before investigation.
    Same ole same ole
Oh well harden the fuck up and keep pedalling.
So while the media and public incarcerate us like this video with the One bad egg Truckee same as other BULLSHIT.
    We're all individuals.
So moral of wot the FUCK I'm saying is.
Fuck the FATIGUED,SPEED(and don't get me started on this BS issue) DRUGS,ALCOHOL factors your all using as an excuse or hard done by theories of employment. Whoa UP(I was crushed by forklift into semi trailer) put this in before you lot grab ya pitch forks.
I don't get on media and harp on about it.
Right. If you had been driving like most us truck drivers have of 30 yrs or more covered ridiculous kms in the millions on interstate average full time driver for 12 months 200,000kms a year, Wot do you and ya poofter porsche do roughly 20,-30,000 (Tonka Toy crap) anyway in this time we've visioned our death more times than we care too remember seen horrific crashes in (as they happen) mode.etc
So wot about I throw in psychological visions,memories/relationships etc. as a form of the fatigue, speed, drug, alcohol status of crash scenarios.
What da fuck is that I πŸ‘‚
"Oh NO you say doesn't relate.
Go FUCK yourselves come live our life for thirty years or more.
You wouldn't last 30 fucking minutes
But No care in the fucking world you all still CUT us off in your tin sardine cans and frighten us too where we reflect on past moments and let go that wheel
    OOOPs Crash.

I cant believe the TWU has the gaul to post this when all they give a shit about is member revenue from large corp's like Toll, linfox etc. they could not give two shit's about owner drivers in AUS. Yet 80% of all long haul work is provided by Owner drivers or smaller transport companies..Why is that??????. it's simple Owner drivers work for the minimums just to keep wheels turning and pay bills in order to keep there independence as owner operators.
We (owner drivers) are the bottom of the food chain, but when there is an incident or issue the buck stops with us and were the ones who have to pay. why, because were easy targets.
As for safe rates… what a fucking joke. God I miss the days when we had a voice,
Do this test one day. ring toll and find out how much it costs to transport 1 pallet 1.2 x 1.2 x 1.5 650 kg Syd to Mel economy service, then ask an owner driver what he got paid to do the job you will be shocked. there in which lies the problem.

It's a tough job made tougher by tighter and tighter margins on every aspect of road transport. Kilogram over distance times dollar is a pretty standard way to scale the cost of freight in Australia. The price war that keeps competition out of most aspects of Australia's domestic retailing and trade, includes the supermarket duopoly of Coles and Woolworths who have cut the margins on road transport profitability as much as they have cut the margins on the producers who supply their retail chains. Then if you look at the National Highways in Australia, which are still little more than 1950-1960 standard two-way roads, and the proliferation of B-doubles since the 1990s, it really is a formula for tragedy. Considering Australian drivers and trucking companies pay nearly double what their counterparts in the USA and China pay for a gallon of deisel, it would seem that consecutive, generations of Australian governments have milked the revenues from fuel levies, taxes and vehicle registrations to pay for everything else that makes Australia what it is – except where it should be spent – on the the National Highway. A drive between Sydney and Brisbane, the nations largest and third largest cities is quite enough to confirm this to anyone who survives the journey.

same in nz the od makes fuck all money and gos bust just because the pay rate from the likes of toll are shit.we allways keep our trucks in good nick to keep working and now we have no house and no trucks that why if nz have min pay rates for onwer drivers it might keep us afloat.
