Raise Truck Driver Salary Rates

Recently, the American Trucking Association has announced their top concerns for focus, for the upcoming year.
#1 concern? The Hours of Service.
#2 concern? Driver Retention. This issue REALLY caught our attention….. Why are they STILL looking at the driver retention problem and WONDERING what to do about it? They and the big trucking company know exactly what the problem is and why the driver turnover rate in the trucking industry is at 100%!
A truck driver rate of pay is below standards…. it does not pay enough money to justify the sacrifices and dangers a trucker encounters.
Yet the A.T.A. and others, still ponder and look for ANY alternative to solve the problem…. ANYTHING other than pay the trucker more money.
So the problem lingers on. More on the low wages of truckers at

Yeah for me it's not about things being more restrictive, it's about how we're getting screwed over while the owner is laughing all the way to the bank. I understand trucks are expensive. Overhead is expensive, but they get paid a lot of money per load and we get a tiny piece of it, then get taxed on that piece of pie. It's like I order a NY cheesecake slice and my wife takes a bite before I get to it. Then after 2 bites the piece is gone.

i dont think its so much that you make more money greeting at walmart but the fact that a living on the road is worth allot more then a couple of extra bucks.

i just landed a local job $16 per hour AND overtime AND $1 per hour retention bonus that gets paid up in September if i stick around (i likely will). i expect to get quite a bit of overtime. i will make damn close to what an OTR driver makes, maybe even more and i will GO HOME when the day is over. i will shower at home, sleep in my own bed, ect and have ALL of my days off at home

I agree truckers need to be paid more. There were truckers protesting at the Port of Miami about 6 months ago.

I tried the OTR thing two years ago. Did my 4 weeks with a trainer then went solo for 3 weeks before I had enough and quit. OTR is a shitty job with a constant stream of unnecessary bullshit and a high level of stress which makes being away from home that much more shitty. I am now doing local LTL-home every night and off weekends and holidays.

I really like your videos, I wanna drive a 379 soon. I've always wanted to, I'm gonna work on getting my cdl as soon as I'm 18 in a few weeks. I think I would enjoy driving. I remember going with my dad when he drove a cow truck when I was younger and it was always fun.

If long haul drivers were paid hourly and O/O's were given bonuses, I'd be buying my own truck and going out on the road for weeks at a time… easily.

I'm going to take a jab at what a O/O should be worth. Minimum net to the driver should be 50 cents a mile. Fixed cost per annum combined  with fuel and repairs and driver/owner pay would have to require $4@mile minimum. Anything under that is giving it away.

Exactly. I love driving but if I don't start making a lot more money after a get a couple years under my belt I'm going to go back into construction. I had a great job making 16 dollars an hour and 25 dollars an hour when I was working out of town. And now I basically work two full time jobs making about as much as someone who works full time at McDonald's.
