Ive had my cdl for about 10 years but im having trouble finding work as a
cdl driver because ive never used it for over the road and its been
quite awhile since ive driven a class a sized truck. When i was younger
i had a bad driving record, but nothing with drugs or alcohol, but its
been about 21 years since that happened. In the past 16 or more years
ive kept a pretty clean driving record, just a speeding ticket here and
there every 3 or 4 years or so. I love to drive so thats why i want to
get into truck driving. I love being by myself and that's another
reason. Any ideas on which companies i should apply for.

If you're thinking of becoming a trucker- DON'T

If you're a trucker now, GET OUT.

The avg OTR trucker earns about $8.60/hr if you count all the unpaid time he spends in his truck a year.

Or you can sign an owner/operator lease and end up taking home $15,000/yr or worse, earning a negative income.

Trucking is now considered a losers job.

    It didn't used to be.

Can you elaborate on the policy of your company prohibiting weapon carry? Guns only? Or does it further into including knives and etc?

Hey Red! Great Tips! I'm from El Paso. Sorry you had those experiences in my home town. El Paso is considered one of the safest cities in the country. You should make a video when you are in EL Paso. Thanks for all your advise. Been following you since you had about 100 followers. Keep up the good work

Being in or near any big city you are usually going to get people asking for a hand out; that's life in America. Whether you are afraid of them or try to help them is your choice. Did you know 25% of homeless are Veterans? Imagine coming home from serving your country in a war zone & having PTSD. As a Christian it is my responsibility to understand that if I am in a position to help another human being in need I am required to do it; and I have done so many times with out any problem over 8 yrs of driving. I'ld rather live a life knowing I contributed in some small way to humanity.
I have always tried to put myself in another person's shoes; how would I feel if I were homeless? Sure some of them want money for booze but I figure sleeping on the ground one might get mighty cold & a drink would keep them warmer. I never cared if that's what they chose to do with my handout, I could afford $5 or $10 here & there. It was no big deal & I'm glad to do what I could for someone down on their luck. After all it could happen to anyone of us in a heartbeat after having an accident. Take care & I hope you can find it in your heart to see the world in a different way, one with more compassion & empathy. Keep the shiny side up friend. Remember God didn't put you in a position of making money for you to selfishly keep it all for yourself. You can't take it with you. Let's make this a better country for all of us. God Bless.

My company won't allow weapons either. But they allow wasp spray. Shoots a poisonous stream about 20 ft. I keep a can inside one of my boots inside the cab.

Brian Sparadeo, There is NO such federal law! That is a myth started by big companies like Werner. As long as you are in a state where you can legally own one you are OK

hey red , get a can or two of wasp spray u can keep one in the bunk and one in your side door works like pepper spray but better and you can spray it up to 5feet and it is legal to have. I also if im ever parked in a spot that is questionable or maybe i never been to i will wrap my seat belt around the door handle and click it in that way they can't open the door if they break the window, may give you a few seconds to protect yourself. Could also buy a tire thumper they sell them in the truck stop keep it next to your seat.

Hi Red, watched many of your videos, learned a lot, and enjoyed doing so.

Just a heads up on the Florida Panhandle reference. The Florida Panhandle extends from Perdido Key (Alabama/Florida line) on the west, to Apalachee Bay on the east.

The Florida Panhandle is Northwest Florida area, not South Florida.

I've lived in the Panhandle most of my life.

I appreciate you! Keep up the good work!

Informative vid RedVikingTrucker. Just off my OTR training with Knight. I experienced what you were talking about a smaller scale so to speak and you have to be aware of your surroundings. Checking my trailer one early morning I noticed someone sleeping under the back end of trailer 2 slots from from where we parked next this forest area. Lots of truck drivers I noticed wake up and roll out not even doing a PTI just to get going. That DOT bumper could have dragged this homeless person for a few miles if it caught his gear just right? My flashlight woke him up so hopefully he got the hint to get up. He looked pretty rough…

I enjoyed my trainer which was a 22 yr. vet of the industry. Learned alot more real life driving situtions, backing (you name it I was thrown into it and more to come backing), blindside street backups, and extremely tight truckstop parking. I take my time and get out to look and park it safely. I logged around 7200 miles in the 3 weeks. Saw some amazing scenery and meet some interesting grumpy truckers. 🙂 Shippers, consignee's seemed to be in a bad mood alot too? 😉 Learned some trade secrets of your HOS which I did not know at CDL school. Seems like you need a secretary out here to remember everything? 😉

I like my office window changes daily. I'm going to like my new career and what it offers. I'm a fast learner and enjoy learning something everyday.

I test out Monday the 8th of August and get my assigned truck to roll my first mile solo. Its been a long time coming and something I have dreamed about for awhile now. It gives me a opportunity to find myself again with something personally that has been going on in life.

Hope to meet you someday rolling down the road. Keep the good work up with the vids and keep the rubber down.

    Sincerely,
    Ty
