I'm laughing and crying at the same time.    I've worked for one of Active's sister companies for many years and part of a monopoly that controls most of the truck driveaway segment.

A fun job, no doubt about it IMO.  Unfortunately, we've seen our pay and benefits cut, work rules weakened and union leadership all but dissolve.  There is no 'unit cohesion' as management employs outside contractors and shills attempting to stabilize astronomical turnover, accident and injury rates.

A couple of decades back turnover was unheard of and accidents – injuries were uncommon.  Chaos now reigns at my employer, probably the largest in driveaway – I hear its pretty much the same at the other driveaway companies also.  Pay has dropped by 10 – 20% and our projected pension benefits have declined by close to one third over the last seven years with no end in sight.  Union contracts are fraudulent in that few, if anyone voted for the ridiculous terms.  In turn, local union stewards won't even enforce the weakened contract or much of anything else.

Go into any driver's room at any of our terminals and the driver mix will be roughly, one third company drivers, one third contractors and one third shills.  This last component was exposed as largely doing no type of transport/ shop work but only 'hanging out' at the terminals and hotels the drivers frequent.  This is changing as we're seeing more shills doing actual transport/ shop work.

I've been perpetually behind on my bills for over two years now, ever since a massive 'hiring program' began.  We've seen the bulk of our 'good trips' disappear  as they are being given to the contractors, favorites, shills who actually work and the new hires they want to hang around.  I have a near flawless record, better than most with my employer but I'm rapidly sinking into poverty and don't recommend truck driveaway to anyone anymore.

Active sucks!!!! Hook up Inc was awesome back in the 90's. 49 cents a mile for a 4 way back in 1999, Active was no where near that wage. Benefit and retirement package too. Piggy backing is not what it used to be.

I also transport new trucks, and I HATE when 4 wheelers just crowd me with the phones, taking vid/pics, just hanging out in my blind spots. put the phones down, hurry up, and pass! Have you never seen a truck before?
